Lexington CUSD #7 sends its condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Joe Underwood, former Lexington CUSD #7 elementary principal, high school principal, superintendent, and "Patriot Award" winner who passed away yesterday.
Declared a "Lexington Legend" in 2005, our students benefited in so many ways from his vision and dedication. Mr. Underwood was remembered for his leadership and guidance to lead our district into the “technology age. He saw the future of computing and made sure that our district could realize that future. In addition, Mr. Underwood led our district through the overseeing of the 1980 grade school/junior high renovation. His skills in school finance helped keep our district financially sound during his tenure.”
Remaining a Lexington resident after his retirement Mr. Underwood was still involved and up to date on all things Minutemen, from sharing thoughts and advice on the referendum a few years back and attending recent student events, to sharing his excitement and thoughts over the upcoming school construction.
On behalf of Minutemen Nation, we will be honoring Mr. Underwood with a moment of silence at the upcoming April 9 School Board meeting.
